Welcome

What is the DAR?

The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR or DAR), is a women’s lineage society, founded in 1890, whose members are direct descendants of those who helped to achieve American independence during the American Revolutionary War.

But we are so much more! We are a women’s service organization; one of the largest and one of the most active in the world. For more than 130 years, we have been focused on three, unchanging goals, historic preservation, education, and patriotism.

We have members in chapters located in all 50 states, one US Territory, and in 11 foreign countries. With a variety of active committees, there is something for everyone! The work of the DAR ranges from encouraging conservation, promoting women’s health, remembering veterans, supporting active-duty military, advancing genealogical research, fostering literacy in children and adults, preserving our nation’s history, welcoming new citizens, advocating patriotic education, and so much more.

Today’s DAR attracts vibrant, engaged, passionate women who love our country and are looking for opportunities to make a difference in our communities, our nation, and throughout the world.
